Evenementen agenda voor Brussel:

Bernard van Orley - Brussels and the Renaissance
20 Februari - 26 Mei 2019

Bernard van Orley was one of the pivotal figures of the Renaissance in the Low Countries. BOZAR and other prominent Belgian institutions are teaming up for the first major monographic exhibition devoted to this 16th century artist. Van Orley was a painter at the court of Margaret of Austria and Mary of Hungary and was inundated with commissions. As a young man he was already at the head of one of the biggest workshops of his time. He painted religious subjects and also designed wall tapestries and stained glass windows. In this exhibition special attention is paid to his portraits that place him at the centre of an important network of political advisors, influential clergymen and humanist thinkers. His work was in constant dialogue with that of contemporaries such as Albrecht Dürer and Raphael

Prints in the Age of Bruegel

27 Febreuary 2019 - 23 June 2019

The exhibition Prints in the Age of Bruegel, presented jointly by BOZAR and the Royal Library of Belgium, paints a picture of print production in the Southern Netherlands in the age of Bruegel. The famous painter’s own production is only the tip of the iceberg: in the shadow of this giant there are many gems of printmaking to be discovered.

Beyond Klimt -New Horizons in Central Europe, 1914-1938

21 september éà&! - 20 January 2019

The end of WWI and the Austro-Hungarian Empire also meant the revival of major developments in the art world. Political and economic shifts led to artistic migrations, new ideas and perspectives and new artistic networks sprang up all over the place. Artists met up in arts centres and international associations and used magazines to communicate across political borders. They believed their artistic identity was more important than their nationality. This exhibition is your chance to take a look at the Central European territories in full transition through the eyes of Gustav Klimt, Josef Capek, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, László Moholy-Nagy and 75 other artists.

Chris Marker, Memories of the Future
19 September - 8 January 2019

BOZAR and La Cinématèque française join forces for a journey through the world and archives of Chris Marker (1921-2012), the militant filmmaker behind La Jetée (1962), not to mention an author, photographer, artist, musician and globetrotter. Nouvelle Vague film director Alain Resnais called him “the prototype of the twenty-first-century man.” Hyper-versatile and cosmopolite.

Eurotopie in Brussels
3 July - 25 November 2018

How can architects contribute to the building of a democratic space? How can one learn from the supranational urban and architectural experimentations that is the European presence in Brussels? How can one measure the issues of Europe’s construction and the cohabiting challenges of the European quarter and of the city of Brussels?
These are the questions raised by the Belgian Pavilion’s curators of the Biennale di Architecttura which recently opened in Venice.

Klimt's Magic Garden
21 September - 20 January 2018

Put on some virtual reality glasses and enter the wonderful world of Gustav Klimt (1862-1918). VR artist and filmmaker Frederick Baker has created a virtual paradise inspired by the series of three mosaics that the master of Austrian Art Nouveau designed for the Stoclet Palace in Brussels. A hundred years after his death you have the chance to set off on a quest in a golden universe full of twisting tendrils, waterfalls and luxuriant roses. But first visit the exhibition Beyond Klimt. New Horizons in Central Europe 1914-1938 and admire some of the artist's works in reality.
